is the far apart birthdays of early childhood is the shut buds of the scarlet rhododendron before each bud peels itself open into a sunrise is awaiting the moment when socks are sorted and spoons are with spoons, forks with forks is my methodical husband buzzing his toothbrush a precise two minutes before tossing his skivvies into the wicker hamper is the sound of wicker shutting on wicker is him looking at me as if I were a happy surprise in his bed is his soft snoring and a warm pocket of air around flesh and the low ta-thump of his heart is some unknown night when there is no ta-thump
