Summer 2014: Young Voices
Things I never said
Poetry by Molly Benson
Just because you’re broken Does not mean You have the right To stab me on the sharpened edges of your shattered pieces. Do not hold me hostage in the prison of your ribcage. I still won’t believe every word you say. Because some part of me still hopes that isn’t you. But the sad part is, I do believe you. If missing me gives you such pain you should find a new hobby. My greatest wish will be fulfilled when you choose to give up on me. You laughed when I said, “ I write poetry.” This wasn’t some declaration written by broken people in the night. I wanted to tell you How you interested me But I am not broken in yet Like a pair of your beat-up loafers. I hope this silence will burn you. It kills me.
