Summer 2014: Artwork
Elizabeth
by Oriana Lewton-Leopold
Size: 30″ x 36″
Medium: Oil on canvas
Artist Statement:
When photographing Elizabeth, I was reading Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper, and was fascinated by the idea of a pattern taking on a life of its own and taking over the mind of the main character. I wanted the cat in Elizabeth’s arms to blend in with her body, almost becoming a part of her, and for the blanket to be full of color and energy, about to consume her.
