Summer 2016: Poetry
How to Know When You are Dreaming
by Jone Rush MacCulloch
Let’s say you’re in bed, about to fall asleep
underneath a Van Gogh starry night sky
you walk backward; forward doesn’t work
You’re surrounded by prime numbers
Underneath a Van Gogh starry night sky
number twenty-nine asks you to tango
You’re surrounded by prime numbers
and you want to divide them by half
Number twenty-nine asks you to tango
You’ve lost your red dancing shoes
and you want to divide them by half
as you knead chocolate pizza dough
You’ve lost your red dancing shoes
maybe hiking boots will work instead
as you knead chocolate pizza dough
while seventeen sheep salsa into the kitchen
Maybe hiking boots will work instead
you walk backward; forward doesn’t work
while seventeen sheep salsa into the kitchen
Let’s say you’re in bed, about to fall asleep
