Winter 2013: Poetry
Inside the Basilica del Voto Nacional, Quito, Ecuador
by Stella Jeng Guillory
1. A small quechua girl, pony-tailed, skips to the awaiting ferry canoe on the Napo River – a traveling portrait of Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her face glowing like the Moon. 2. A young man with no legs proceeds to the chapel on two hands. His upper body joins the end of the confessional line. The priest listens seemingly from the eternity at the other end.
